On Sunday 18th October, myself and Angela went along to our first Midlands Action Team Event, which was the Shugborough Stride - a 10k walk to raise money for Breast Cancer. As volunteers, our roles were as Marshalls, wearing illuminous yellow MARSHALL jackets, and directing the participants around the route at Shugborough Hall, an area with beautiful grounds. Armed with a CR-UK packed lunch, we were delivered to our mashall points..
My point was at a section where the 200 participants crossed a road and cattle grid, before embarking up a woodside walk, and therefore not only did I have to cheer them on and keep their spirits up, but also stop traffic!
(ooh the power!)
Angela on the other hand was in the woods
ensuring that people didnt go off course or get lost!
The fancy dress outfits of those taking part were just great, people had made a real effort to dress in pink, including the lady in a full size woopi cushion and a man in his pajamas
I had a great day and really enjoyed working with the other volunteers and St John’s Ambulance. The day raised over £8000 for CRUK.
See my previous post on how you can get involved with Midlands Action Team.
